Year Up National Capital Region, River of Life Church, and Special Guests …
… for a special benefit and Celebration of Dream Achievers in Prince George’s County Maryland. Year Up is a non-profit work force development organization providing young adults ages of 18 to 24 an opportunity to gain skills and experience in fields like Technology (IT), Help Desk Support, Project Management and Cyber Security. Students are prepared to enter the corporate work place with professional skills. The first 6 months of the program are spent in classroom training preparing students for their 6 month internship at any one of the 60 corporate partners, like Capital One, Accenture, Fannie Mae, and Deloitte. Students earn a stipend throughout the year. 45% of the interns are converted into full time employment while over 90% of students are fully employed and/or back to school within 4 months of graduation. Students earn between 25-30 college credits and the average starting salary is $45k per year with a path to a W2 that grows over time. Since 2006, Year UP National Capital Region has provided this opportunity to 849 students from Prince Georges County at an investment of over $25 million.
Come and hear how churches, faith based groups, community organizations, businesses and county government can come together to partner with Year Up to provide support and resources to further expand the program to impact additional students in our communities in Prince Georges County. Hear from Prince Georges County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy, County Council Vice Chairman Rodney Streeter, Year Up Executive Director Guylaine Sainte Juste, Pastor Charles Whitaker, Year Up Alumni Students, live music, multi-media presentations and much more.
The celebration and benefit for Year Up will occur on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the River of Life Church, 4207 Norcross Street, Temple Hills MD 20748 (get directions). Food and reception will be from 6:30 PM to 7:15 PM.
